Ghana and the Republic of Korea have explored opportunities to deepen cultural, tourism and creative-industry cooperation, with discussions focused on strengthening people-to-people connections and creating platforms for greater cultural and commercial exchange between the two countries.

The discussions took place in Seoul during a meeting involving Ghana’s Ambassador to the Republic of Korea, H.E. Kojo Choi, senior officials of the Ghanaian Embassy, and Inna Patty, Esq., Managing Director of Exclusive Events Ghana Limited, organiser of Miss Ghana and Chair of the Miss Ghana Foundation.
Cultural Diplomacy and Tourism
The meeting explored how Ghana’s cultural heritage, tourism assets and creative industries could be leveraged to strengthen Ghana-Korea relations and create opportunities for cultural exchange, tourism promotion and private-sector collaboration.

Among the areas discussed were potential cultural showcases, tourism promotion initiatives, creative-industry exhibitions and exchanges that could bring Ghanaian and Korean stakeholders together.
The discussions come as Ghana and Korea approach significant bilateral milestones. Ghana and South Korea established diplomatic relations in 1977 and are expected to mark 50 years of diplomatic relations in 2027. South Korean President Lee Jae-myung and Ghanaian President John Dramani Mahama also discussed strengthening bilateral cooperation during their March 2026 summit in Seoul.
Showcasing Ghanaian Culture in Korea
The parties discussed opportunities to showcase Ghana’s cultural heritage, tourism destinations, fashion, textiles, craftsmanship and creative talent to Korean audiences.
The proposed initiatives could also promote Ghana as a destination for tourism, cultural experiences and business while creating opportunities for greater people-to-people engagement.
The Miss Ghana platform, together with the Miss Ghana Foundation and other relevant Ghanaian institutions, could provide a platform for promoting Ghanaian culture, heritage and tourism while facilitating exchanges between Ghanaian and Korean stakeholders.
Ghanaian Fashion, Textiles and Creative Industries
The meeting also considered opportunities to introduce Ghanaian fashion, textiles, handcrafted accessories and other creative products to the Korean market.
The proposed exchanges could bring selected Ghanaian designers, creative entrepreneurs and representatives of the Miss Ghana and Mr Ghana platforms together with Korean counterparts for exhibitions, cultural showcases and business networking.
Such engagements could provide Ghanaian creative businesses with opportunities to establish relationships in Korea, explore potential market access and develop longer-term commercial partnerships while showcasing Ghana’s cultural identity.
Tourism and Ghana’s Cultural Heritage
The discussions highlighted the potential role of cultural diplomacy in promoting Ghana’s tourism offering and increasing awareness of the country’s historical and cultural heritage.
Ghana is preparing to celebrate its 70th Independence Anniversary in March 2027. The milestone has already featured in official Ghanaian discussions and programmes ahead of the anniversary.
Against this background, the proposed collaboration could provide opportunities to connect Ghana’s history, culture, tourism and contemporary creative industries with Korean audiences.
Building People-to-People Connections
The proposed cultural and tourism initiatives are also intended to support stronger people-to-people connections between Ghana and Korea.
Both countries have identified areas for broader cooperation as they approach the 50th anniversary of diplomatic relations. Recent bilateral discussions have included areas such as trade, investment, education, healthcare, technology and other sectors.
Next Steps
The meeting agreed on the importance of continuing discussions with relevant Ghanaian and Korean stakeholders to identify practical areas of cooperation.
The Ghanaian Embassy is expected to engage further with relevant institutions and stakeholders to consider how the proposed cultural, tourism and creative-industry initiatives could be developed into actionable programmes.
The discussions reaffirmed the potential role of culture and tourism as platforms for strengthening Ghana-Korea relations and creating opportunities for collaboration, exchange and mutual understanding as both countries prepare for significant bilateral milestones in 2027.
